Troy Ladd, L.A. Roadsters 2012 Builder of the Year, is the third custom car icon to be added to the growing stable of Red Kap Craftsmen. Ladd owns Hollywood Hot Rods in Burbank, CA. He has been designing, building and restoring incredible custom hot rods out of that high-profile shop for more than a decade.
Ladd is known for his work on the TV shows Rides (2003), Ultimate Car Build Off (2010) and American Icon: The Hot Rod (2010). He’s been honored by enthusiast magazines like Hot Rod Magazine, Street Rodder Magazine and Rod & Custom. Other major wins include Grand National Roadster Show 2010 Builder of the Year and the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association/SEMA 2007 Trendsetter Award. The Newport Bach native’s trademark touch combines a strong reverence for past icons with an eye toward the future.
Watch: “The Builder”
The Craftsmen is a video series profiling custom builders who embody Red Kap’s core values of heritage, craftsmanship and passion. “The Builder” is the first of two videos profiling Ladd. Viewers will hear Ladd’s unique stories while seeing the high-performance works of art that earned him a place among this elite group.
We’re proud to announce Matt Harris of 40 Cal Customs as the second builder to be added to the growing stable of Red Kap Craftsmen. Matt Harris first burst onto the custom bike scene when he appeared on Discovery Channel’s Bike Live TV show. Harris won the show’s viewer poll, marking his introduction into the ranks of elite custom bike builders.
During California’s world-famous Born Free event, he made another strong impression when he won the first round of Hot Bike Magazine’s Speed and Style Fabrication Showdown. In the hyper-competitive Hot Bike Speed and Style Build-Off, six carefully selected builders were each given a Harley-Davidson power plant. Their mission: to build a ground-up custom motorcycle around the engine. Beyond earning the trophy for Speed and Style, Harris also took home the 2015 Firestone Award, presented by Coker Tire.
Harris was selected to be profiled in The Craftsmen series because he is a builder true to his craft, a devoted family man and a hardworking entrepreneur who is passionate about living the American dream. He hails from Alcoa, TN , located near Knoxville.
Red Kap will continue to add more Craftsmen to this program in the months ahead. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
We’re excited to announce The Craftsmen, a video series profiling custom builders who embody Red Kap’s core values of heritage, craftsmanship and passion. These short, high-energy videos will each showcase a different builder. Viewers will hear their unique stories, plus see the high-performance works of art that earn these Craftsmen a place among this elite group.
California native Heath Pinter will appear first in the series. Pinter is a professional BMX rider, X Games champion and classic car builder. He also built Red Kap’s featured vehicle at the 2014 SEMA Show, a 1950 3-window Chevy truck.
Pinter’s distinctive build style and relentless passion for improving his craft has made him a natural fit to be featured in the series. Though he started out building vehicles for his personal use, his creations attracted enough industry attention to turn the hobby into a much more serious effort. His latest project is a 1928 Roadster. The finished build will be publicly unveiled in October when it’s entered into The Race of Gentlemen, a one-of-a-kind event held on the beaches of the Jersey Shore. Previous builds include a 1965 Lincoln Continental, 1954 Shoebox Ford, 1955 Buick Special, 1931 Ford Model A and 1950 Chevy Truck.
“Red Kap’s Craftsman series was developed to celebrate individuals that have a passion for building and follow those dreams to build, whether they are an expert or novice craftsman. They are not always professionals – many are weekend builders or hobbyists – but all have an unrelenting aspiration in a job done right, and we want to honor these individuals.” says Chris Holcombe, Vice President and General Manager of Red Kap.

We’re excited to announce the release of “Ballistic”, with brand ambassador “Ballistic” BJ Baldwin, seven-time off-road racing champion. The video features Baldwin narrating his journey as an off-road racer while he and his crew hit the treacherous off-road desert terrain, “Ballistic” style.
Baldwin reflects on his podium finishes backed by his dedicated team as well as his father’s unrelenting support that helped fuel two Baja 1000 Championships.
“It was my dad who first introduced me to dirt sports that I now share with my son. Without my family and my crew’s support I would not have a career in racing. I’m really proud of them and everything that we have accomplished as a team. I look forward to continuing to compete with the best guys in the sport.” -BJ Baldwin.
We teamed up with Baldwin early in 2014, and we’re proud to outfit the entire Baldwin Motorsports team in our performance apparel.
“Baldwin’s career has been chock full of successes. He has a deep respect for his team, the sport and, above all else, family, which is extremely admirable. BJ’s dedication and passion for what he does is forging an unforgettable legacy for Baldwin Motorsports, and Red Kap is proud to be part of that legacy.” – Chris Holcombe, Vice President and General Manager of Distributor Brands, Red Kap

Ford recently unveiled their new uniform program for dealerships. A Red Kap customer since the 1980s, this marks the first update to their uniform in nearly 15 years.
To develop the new program, our design team worked closely with their Technician Review Panel and Parts & Service Advisory Council. The new tech look is quite a change from the old – going from predominantly navy to a updated charcoal grey. The uniform includes our new Shop Pants and Shop Shorts, with performance features such as a covered button that won’t scratch a paint job, inseam gussets for comfort and a better range of motion and specialty pockets for additional tool storage. The shirt is also packed with features that the techs are sure to appreciate. Check out the full program brochure here.
Around here, it’s never too early to start thinking about The SEMA Show – and this year is no exception. One of our own employees, Terry Rose, is fulfilling his dream of rebuilding the family Chevy C-10. It’s a project that he’s been dreaming of for years and now he’s finally decided to move forward, with the help of custom hot rod builder, Tim Strange. If all goes as planned, it’ll be completed in time to make the trip out to Las Vegas in November for the 2015 SEMA Show, which will be Red Kap’s 6th year exhibiting!
We thought it would be fun to share the project progress with our fans through social media, so follow along on Facebook and Instagram.
Red Kap joined with WIX Filters and O’Reilly Auto Parts to sponsor the 2014 School of the Year award from Tomorrow’s Tech Magazine. “We pride ourselves on building an automotive program that provides our students with the skills and advanced training necessary for careers in an industry that is constantly evolving,” said Lewis Nall, auto and diesel program coordinator at OCTC. As the 2014 School of the Year, the school’s automotive program received:
- $2,500 donation to the school’s Automotive Technology program from WIX Filters
- Uniform for every student from Red Kap
- Merchandise from O’Reilly and WIX Filters
- Travel for the school’s instructor and a guest to Las Vegas to attend a recognition dinner at AAPEX
